Can I go straight from a car licence to Category C+E?
Yes. You can train directly for Category C+E without first passing a Category C driving test, provided you have the correct provisional entitlement and have completed the required medical and theory tests.
What is the difference between Category C and Category C+E?
Category C allows you to drive rigid goods vehicles over 3,500kg. Category C+E allows you to drive Category C vehicles with a trailer over 750kg, including articulated and drawbar combinations.
What is Category C1?
Category C1 covers vehicles between 3,500kg and 7,500kg. It is commonly required for certain ambulance, recovery and specialist vehicle roles.
What is the difference between Category D and D1?
Category D1 is generally used for minibuses, while Category D is for larger buses and coaches.
Do I need a medical before starting LGV or PCV training?
In most cases, yes. You will normally need a medical examination and the appropriate provisional entitlement before starting the practical licence process.
What theory tests do I need?
The theory tests you need depend on the licence category and whether you also require Driver CPC. We can help you identify exactly which tests apply before your practical training begins.
What is Module 3A?
Module 3A is the off-road practical test. It includes the reversing exercise and, where a trailer is used, the uncoupling and recoupling procedure.
What is Module 3B?
Module 3B is the on-road practical driving test. You must pass Module 3A before taking Module 3B.
What is Driver CPC?
Driver CPC is the professional qualification required by many people who drive lorries, buses or coaches as part of their work. Some exemptions can apply depending on how the vehicle is used.
How much Periodic Driver CPC training do I need?
You normally need 35 hours of periodic training every five years to keep your Driver CPC valid for professional driving.
What is Module 4?
Module 4 is a practical demonstration test covering areas such as vehicle safety, security, emergency situations and safe working practices.
I am not sure which course I need. Can you help?
Yes. Contact our team and tell us what you want to drive and what licence you currently hold. We can help you identify the most appropriate training route.
